Training on Outcome-Based Education for UIU Faculty Members

United International University (UIU) conducted a full-day faculty development program focused on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) for the School of Science and Engineering (SoSE) yesterday at UIU campus. This initiative aimed to enhance faculty members' ability to implement OBE, ensuring that educational outcomes align with global accreditation standards and that the curriculum is student-centric.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin, Peng, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) as the Guest of Honor in the program. The training sessions were led by esteemed faculty members from UIU, including Prof. Dr. Hasan Sarwar, Dean of SoSE, Prof. Dr. AKM Muzahidul Islam, Dept. of CSE, Prof. Dr. Kaled Masukur Rahman, Head, Dept. of EEE and Dr. Sadid Muneer, Associate Professor, Dept. of EEE. The topics addressed comprised the philosophy of OBE, Course and Program Outcomes (CO & PO), Complex Engineering Problems (CEP), teaching-learning and assessment methods based on OBE, and OBE management utilizing UCAM, UIU’s academic digital management system.
In his speech as the Guest of Honor, Dr. Tarek discussed the underlying principles and importance of OBE in today’s educational framework, stressing that it marks a transition from traditional, content-focused learning to performance-based education that evaluates what students can actually demonstrate. He also highlighted the significance of OBE in international standards such as the Washington Accord and BAETE accreditation.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Mofijul Hoq Masum, FCMA, Associate Professor - AIS, SoBE, and Director - IQAC, illustrated that the training demonstrates UIU’s strong dedication to quality assurance and ongoing improvement in student-focused higher education.
Participants shared experiences, reinforcing the adoption of OBE methods. UIU drives educational excellence and prepares students for national and global impact by arranging such faculty development programs.
