AIUB organized “Discover English 2025: Student Conference on English Language and Literature”

The Department of English of the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), in collaboration with the TESOL Society of Bangladesh, organized “Discover English 2025: Student Conference on English Language and Literature” with the motto: A conference by the students and for the students!. The event was held on 8 November 2025 at the AIUB Campus. The conference received a remarkable response from students, a total of 184 students from undergraduate, postgraduate (MA, MPhil), and PhD levels in the disciplines of English Language and Literature took part in this day-long academic event.
The event opened with the welcome speech of Associate Professor M Hamidul Haque, Head of the English Department of AIUB and President of the TESOL Society of Bangladesh, and Prof. Dr. Sayeedur Rahman, Advisor, TESOL Society of Bangladesh, who shared his insights on the significance of student-led conferences in advancing research and collaboration. Ms. Munia Jaman, MA student of the Department of English, AIUB and Convenor of Discover English 2025, expressed her gratitude to the participants and organizers for their support and enthusiasm.
The keynote speech was delivered by Mohammad Mosiur Rahman, PhD Candidate at the Department of English and Communication, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His keynote, titled “Trends in Applied Linguistics and TESOL Research: Orientations, Frameworks, and Methodological Diversity,” explored emerging directions in global linguistic and pedagogical research. In the closing ceremony Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Dr. Md Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, graced the occasion as the chief and special guests respectively. Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, AIUB, addressed the audience and encouraged the students to continue their scholarly pursuits. 8 papers were awarded “Special Mention” in the categories of graduate language and literature in recognition of their outstanding student research. The conference ended with a vibrant cultural segment organized by the students of AIUB.
